Looking for a quality AOR fix? Wishing Fergie still sang with Toto? Wanting new Survivor music? Look no further!

Mecca is the brainchild of newcomer and co-lead vocalist Joe Vana. He is supported in the songwriting process by AOR Legend Jim Peterik, formerly of Survivor and currently doing his World Stage thing. JP also produces the album with Ides of March bandmate Larry Millas.

Joe then went searching for the best players around. Mike Aquino came on board to supply his brand of guitar playing. Fergie Frederiksen then was asked on board to sing the harder edged songs, whilst Joe handled the ballads. David Hungate, bass player from Toto, was next on board, followed by legendary session drummer Shannon Forrest, and keyboardist Jimmy Nichols.

The best thing about this album – there is not a “filler” track in sight…time was taken to craft every song into a masterpiece. From the rocket fuel that is Velocitized (written by the Survivor writing team of Peterik and Sullivan), to the dual vocals on Can’t Stop Love, this album is just outstanding.

This is a great book for someone who wants to better understand Islamic prayer rituals. Note that I say “better understand”. It’s taken nearly a decade, but we finally have a second album from AOR/melodic rock project Mecca. The band’s 2003 self-titled debut was very well-received, and 2011′s Undeniable should be just as satisfying to AOR fans, even if it doesn’t feature Fergie Frederiksen this time around. Joe Vana is a more than capable vocalist though, especially on songs co-written by the likes of Tommy Denander and Tony Levin.

If you’re familiar at all with the Frontiers label, you know albums like this are pretty much their bread and butter. They specialize in glossy, `80s-minded melodic rock, and Mecca definitely qualifies. This is gorgeous stuff, catchy and radio-friendly (in the mid `80s at least), and brings to mind bands like Toto, Journey, Survivor and REO Speedwagon as well as current Frontiers artists like Work of Art and Pride of Lions. This is the best Qur’an available on the Kindle store. I have wasted quite a bit of money trying to find one that has good navigation and is a good translation. This one passes all of this criteria with flying colors.
